Description:
New York: Vanguard Press, 1934. Hardcover. Fine/Near Fine. First edition. Fine in an about near fine dustwrapper, lightly worn, with the spine sunned and the spinal extremities reinforced. Curiously, on the front flap the publisher has warned: "We caution collectors of first editions not to overlook this title," which considering the scarcity of this title, they apparently did. A nice copy of an uncommon book.

New York: Vanguard Press, 1935. Hardcover. Fine/Very Good. First edition. Two modest stamps from a Brooklyn camera shop on the front pastedown, else fine in an attractive, very good dustwrapper with a thin triangular chip on the spine removing some of the lettering from the title, and some other modest wear at the extremities. The author's first book, an antiwar novel based on the abortive 1917 rebellion (called the Green Corn Rebellion in the War Department archives) of Oklahoma farmers who plotted to rebel against the draft and America's entrance into the First World War, and to march on Washington and form a cooperative commonwealth, and the tragic consequences to those who participated in it. Cunningham was a major influence on his protégé and friend at the Oklahoma Writer's Project, Jim Thompson. Thompson's admiration for this novel and friendship with Cunningham precipitated his being hired at the Project, where he succeeded Cunningham as Director. Cunningham was also the head of the…

New York: The Vanguard Press, 1938. 1st Edition. Hardcover. Dust Jacket Included. 1st Edition. Hardcover. First US Edition. Co-authored by Greene with Ronald Matthews. In England, the book published by Routledge, was suppressed. The "The Public Morality Council", alerted by reviews notified the Home Secretary who pressured Routledge to withdraw the book. There was quite a stir & Greene literally took off to Mexico at the time to avoid a potential libel action. As a consequence to Greene collectors, the UK 1st book is as rare as the rarest of Greene titles, especially in any sort of dustwrapper. After Routledge withdrew the book & pulped the run, it was published in Paris, June, 1938 by Jack Kahane, father of Maurice Girodias. Another edition was published in London in 1954. This is the true first US 1938 edition & very scarce in its own right & not often seen in dustwrapper. A very good or better copy showing a bit of fade to the extremities of the delicate blue cloth, partial binding offsetting at…
