"When carnival ventriloquist Oscar Diggs finds himself adrift in a hot air balloon, he has no idea how much his life is about to change. For when the balloon finally lands, he finds himself in the marvelous Land of Oz! Hailed as a wizard, he is met with joy by the good people of Oz and hatred by the land's two wicked witches. How Oscar eventually fights off the witches, builds the fabulous Emerald City, and establishes himself as the wonderful Wizard of Oz is a story sure to enthrall Oz lovers of all ages. Donald Abbott has created a delightful tale about Oz in the days before a cyclone first brought Dorothy Gale of Kansas to that fabled fairyland. Filled with striking black-and-white illustrations, styled after W.W. Denslow's famous pictures for L. Frank Baum's first Oz story, How the Wizard Came to Oz is a wonderful new addition to the Oz series.
