Kobenhavn: H. Aschehoug & Co, 1921. First edition, third thousand. Hardcover. Very good. The title translates roughly as A Whaling Voyage Through the Tropics. Text in Danish. The journey took the crew from Cardiff to Africa (Dakar, Senegal) to South America (Brazil) to Deception Island and "Penguin Land". With references to Antarctic explorers, including the Belgica Expedition under Adrien de Gerlache who was the first explorer to survive a winter in the Antarctic (1898 - 1899), having been trapped in the ice in the Bellinghausen Sea. 8vo, 160pp, b&w photographs throughout. Three quarter brown leather and marbled boards, gilt title at spine. Covers rubbed, esp at marbled edges, spine sunned. Internally, very good. OCLC: 13502246.
