"Robinson, Elsinore Justina (30 April 1883 - Sept. 1956). Robinson was born in Benicia, California, and attended the public schools of that city. She spent ten years in an unhappy marriage in Vermont, then took her ailing son and left for the West, where she worked as a hard-rock miner in a mining camp. Giving up mining, she moved to San Francisco and eventually found work at nearby Oakland writing children's stories for the Tribune. Her stories were an immediate success, and, writing as Aunt Elsie, she soon was in charge of an eight-page children's tabloid section on Sundays.
