The Royal Irish Fusiliers on front endpapers; provenance the British writer Alan Sillitoe's copy with his signatures on front free endpaper; during the war the copy of Vice Admiral Bertram Chalmers Watson, Admiral Commanding Iceland with rubber stamp Ni~Confidential Book Office dated 1944, on a typed bookplate. First edition. Probably one of the best researched books of the 20th century on the island, restricted 'for the use of persons in H.M. Service only' (title-verso). The publication of this book was necessitated by the Britsh occupation of Iceland in May 1940. - The typed bookplate reads This book is invariably to be kept in a place of safety when not in use and not fet lying about. It is not to be taken outside the ship or establishment to which it is issued. When issued to individual Oficers it is always to be signed for. Loosely inserted an RGS-published illustrating the paper on the Cambridge Expedition to Vatnajökull, 1932.
