The scarce first edition. Two volumes in one, including 'A Supplement to Junius Identified' bound to the rear.An intriguing work by John Taylor, in which he explores the possibilities of the identity of Junius. Taylor draws the conclusion in this work, likely correctly, that Junius was Sir Philip Francis.'Junius' was an anonymous writer who wrote a series of sixty-nine letters for the 'Public Advertiser' from 1769 to 1772. The letters were critical of the government of King George III, a riveting political commentary of the Georgian era.Illustrated with a frontispiece, and five folding plates to 'Supplement'.'A Supplement to Junius Identified' is the second edition, published in 1817.Bookplate of Thomas Munro to the front paste down. Munro was a Scottish soldier and colonial administrator, serving as an officer and statesman with the East India Company, and was also the Governor of Madras. In a full marbled calf binding. Externally, smart. A few very small marks to the boards and spine. Very light bumping to the extremities. Minor rubbing to the spine label and joints. Bookplate to the front paste down. Some spots to the paste downs and endpapers. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very lightly age toned and clean with only a few scattered spots. Near Fine
