Moscow: Progress Publishers, 1971. Fourth Printing 1982. Hardcover. Black Boards with Gilt Lettering on Spine. Original, Good Condition/good, Brodart covered. 2 Volumes. Translated from the Russian by Julius Katzer.
Dostoyevskys novel The Idiot (1868), the first foreign translation of this masterpiece, came out in English in 1887. During its hundred odd years of existence, the story has shown its tremendous vitality and appeal. It has been translated into many languages and screened by many of the worlds leading film directors. Its central theme was expressed by the author as follows: The main idea in the novel is to depict a positively excellent human being. The Idiot is the most personal and the most lyrical of Dostoyevskys writings.
Fyodor Mikhailovich Dostoevsky (1821 - 1881), sometimes transliterated as Dostoyevsky, was a Russian novelist, short story writer, essayist, and journalist. Dostoevsky's literary works explore the human condition in the troubled political, social, and spiritual atmospheres of 19th-century Russia, and engage with a variety of philosophical and religious themes. His most acclaimed novels include Crime and Punishment (1866), The Idiot (1869), Demons (1872), and The Brothers Karamazov (1880). Dostoevsky's main body of works consists of 12 novels, four novellas, 16 short stories, and numerous other works.
