Kegan Paul: 1878) Full leather bound (that is, hard covers) with five raised bands, bevelled boards, lettered in gilt and with a small gilt decoration on the front panel pp. x, 405 (168 x 110 mm). All edges gilt. Gift inscription on front fly leaf. Spine lightly sunned; head and foot of spine well rubbed; raised bands well rubbed; a few small scuffs to spine; corners of boards rubbed; otherwise a very good copy and internally near fine.
Synopsis
The longest and most ambitious work of his career, Idylls is a reflection of Tennyson's lifelong interest in Arthurian themes. His personification of Arthur, the highest ideal of manhood and leadership, is achieved through a delicacy of phrase and metrical effect that are unmatched.
