About This Item

London : Faber and Faber , 1977-2014. First edition. Hardback. Near Fine/Fine. 9.5" by 6.5". None . A set of nine award winning books by Peter Carey The first edition. In the original unclipped dust wrapper. A set of nine books by the Australian author Peter Carey. Amnesia is signed by Peter Carey. He is one of five writers to have won the Booker Prize twice. He won this prize for Oscar and Lucinda in 1988 and True History of the Kelly Gang in 2001. Peter Carey writes with great levels of depth and complexity drawing the reader into each story. His writing considered ideas of metafiction and magical realism, these literary techniques are displayed wonderfully in Illywhacker which was shortlisted for the Booker Prize. Within this collection, these novels explore genres of magical realism, crime, and historical fiction. Jack Maggs written in 1997 challenged Carey to write a historical novel. This story reworks Great Expectations to focus on Jack Maggs loosely based on Magwitch. When published it received rave reviews with it being termed as imaginative and daring. In The Unusual Life Of Triston Smith Carey creates an immersive novel through magical realism. Within this novel, he explores the themes of political and cultural dynamics and the impact that they have on relationships. My Life As a Fake is based largely on the Ern Malley Hoax of 1943. It is a novel largely inspired by this hoax and the consequences that it had on the individuals involved. His Illegal Self was longlisted for the International Dublin Literary Award. It is a novel of political, social, and religious questions. The Chemistry of Tears was published in 2012. It tells two parallel stories. The story focuses on the role of women within society and the extent to which they are governed by social and cultural expectations. Amnesia is a novel about internet hacking in the 1970s. It is a story that asks many valuable questions of safety and security. Like many of Carey's books, it creates an aura of fantastical while being grounded in the truth. It is a novel that responds to many issues that are still relevant today. Carey has been praised for how he writes about why past issues still affect the present and future. In the original publisher's binding in the original unclipped dust wrappers. Externally very smart. Light marks to the dust wrapper on His Illegal Self and The Chemistry of Tears. The boards are bright and clean. Internally firmly bound. Pages bright and clean. Signed by Peter Carey on the title page of Amnesia. Near Fine
