Philadelphia: The American Philosophical Society, 1940. First Edition. Hardcover. Octavo, vii, 162 pages. In Good condition. Spine is red with gilt lettering. Boards show two minor spots of rubbing on front board, and two minor spots of rubbing on back baord. Spine shows sunning and slightly bumped tail edge. Boards show bumped fore edge corners on front and back boards, and slight sunning near head edge of front board. Textblock shows age toning. RWO Consignment. John U. Nef was an American economic historian, whose disciplinary focus was Western Europe. Nef was a professor of economic history at the University of Chicago and co-founder of the university's Committee on Social Thought.

A.L. Rowse was a British historian and writer, with a scholarly focus on Elizabethan and Shakespearean texts. His personal writings were within the realms of autobiographical poetry, and biographies.

The inscription from the author reads:
