An uncommon 19th century treatise on nutrition for infants taking for granted that mothers milk is the most appropriate food and that weaning ought not to take place before the infant and its digestive organs are sufficiently prepared for more complicated nutrition. The book discusses the gradual introduction of other foods once the first teeth erupt and finishes with a discussion of the summer complaint which comes from overfeeding and hot and foul air. Dr. Abraham Jacobi wrote the original edition, which was published in 1874, and his wife, Dr. Mary Putnam Jacobi, substantially enlarged and revised it in this 1878 edition. Both authors were pioneering and influential medical doctors, educators, and social reformers. ; Ex-Library; 8vo 8" - 9" tall .
