Double frontispieces and twelve additional illustrated plates inserted throughout; numerous in-text illustrations. Publisher's dark brown cloth, spine and front board lettered and stamped in gilt, boards ruled in blind with decorative blind-stamped corner-pieces and a central publisher's device on the rear board; all edges of the text block trimmed; brown coated endpapers; flyleaves. Spine very gently cocked; spine ends worn and frayed with some apparently trimming; backstrip with a small central blemish, causing a touch of wear to the gilt lettering of the "T" in "Twain," and a tiny divot just above the publisher's device; edges somewhat worn; corners softly bumped with boards partially exposed; general light soiling. Text block sagging very slightly; rear hinge partially cracked but still secure; occasional minor over-opening; short marginal tear on the plate facing page 64, upper corner of the leaf with pages 355-356 creased a few other insignificant faults to the text block; occasional minor creasing.
