London: Longman, Orme, Brown, Green & Longmans, 1844. Ninth edition, corrected, enlarged, and improved: With explanatory plates and woodcuts. Pp. xxviii+624(last blank)+32(publisher's catalogue, dated June 1850), frontispiece with tissue guard, plus 10 plates (including a portrait), text illustrations (a few full page), patterned endpapers with advertisements on pastedowns, index; tall demy 8vo; navy cloth, boards decorated in blind, neatly rebacked, with most of the original spine (lettered & decorated in gilt and decorated in blind, with small piece missing at foot) laid on, the boards slightly scuffed, edges lightly worn and fore-corners bruised; uncut; hinges starting, binder's ticket (Remnant & Edmonds) at foot of lower pastedown, a few leaves faintly creased, occasional small edge chips or splits, a little mainly light foxing; Longman, Orme, Brown, Green & Longmans, London, 1844. Ninth edition. *From the library of firearms collector Douglas Mills, with his business card laid on the upper free endpaper and a previous owner's brief inked inscription (dated 1912) on the upper pastedown.
