About This Item
New York: Academic, 1972. Green Boards. Very Good/Good. 9 1/2" Tall. The author was Director of the Gulf Coast Fisheries Center in Galveston, and Professor of Veterinary Microbiology at College Station. "Invertebrate pathology can be approached in two equally valid ways - the noninfectious and infectious diseases of each major group of invertebrates can be considered in ascending taxonomic or phylogenetic order or it can be approached from the disease point of view, each major type of deviation from the normal state of health being considered... Despite the predominant interest of many investigators in a specific group of invertebrates such as the mollusks, the challenge of considering invertebrate pathology as a comparative, phylogenetically related entity induced me to adopt the subject matter approach." The chapter headings are: Death and Postmortem Changes; Reaction to Injury and Wound Repair in Invertebrates; Physical Injuries; Chemical Injuries; Venom and Biotoxin Injuries; Pathological Effects of Ionizing Radiation; and Tumors and Tumorlike Conditions in Invertebrates. Six chapters, 397 pages, with figures and half-tones, Author Index, and Subject Index; plus Contents and Preface; References at the end of each chapter. DJ rubbed, chipped, browned at edges, and has a 1" tear at upper forward hinge; boards are clean and sound; text is clean and strong.
