About This Item

privately published, Douglas, Isle of Man, 1972. First Edition. Softcover (Saddle-stapled). Very Good Condition/No Dust Jacket. Booklet “I dedicate this piece of doggerel - written in bed after an accident - in gratitude to the Staff of Noble's (Lo.M.) Hospital, who with patience and yet without the least dereliction of duty, made it possible for me to scribble these words - even if sometimes in disagreement with opinions expressed. encouraged by Evan Shipman, who once told Hemingway: ‘What we want is a lot more unambitious writers and unpublished poems,’ without - as is obvious - any professional skill, I embarked on this particular therapy. The poem is, of course, entirely fictitious, especially letters from the Queen and any official views, pretended or implied. All persons described are completely imaginary, but most controversial opinions expressed are firmly held by myself and many others. Yet 1 must, at the same time, emphatically state that this should not be interpreted in any way as an encouragement to drive on open roads with that arrogance or carelessness which, far from showing those at the wheel as valiant gentlemen, rather stamps them as callous louts.” . Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. 16 pages. Item Type: Booklet. Quantity Available: 1. Shipped Weight: Under 250 grams. Category: Poetry; Isle of Man; Motorcycle Racing; Humour; Britain/UK; Sports & Pastimes. Inventory No: 3599. .
