Small ownership label of Ian Macauley, some wear to the crown, very good in supplied dustwrapper with a small chip on the front board, a couple of tiny tears and some general wear at the extremities (along with the original tattered, poor dustwrapper). The Dedication Copy Inscribed by Arthur C. Clarke to his protégé, one-time secretary, and longtime friend Ian Macauley on the dedication page, underneath the printed dedication which reads: "For Ian From an Elizabethan to a Georgian," the written inscription follows: " - this token of our friendship, until we meet again. Arthur. 19 Sept 1952." Clarke's first published hardcover novel, a story for adolescents. Macauley was an award-winning *New York Times* journalist who also edited Clarke's book of collected essays, *Greetings, Carbon-Based Bipeds!* (2000). Clarke wrote the last chapter of *Childhood's End* while visiting Macauley in Atlanta in 1952, where he was reportedly greatly influenced by their discussions. Clarke's first hardcover novel, preceded only by *Prelude to Space* (1951), which was issued in paperback as *Galaxy Science Fiction Novel #3*.

A particularly bright copy of this scarce cult post-apocalyptic novel which is certainly the authors best known work. The basis for the 1970 movie “No blade of Grass”. A particularly bright copy with the normal faded white lettering on the spine looking like new. The only defects being a very slight 2mm tear on the front end paper and a small indent on the back end paper. The binding is tight and the book possibly unread. The DW has one small chip at the top of the spine very slight edgewear and small tears (about 2mm each) at the top and bottom of flaps but with no loses. Some discoloration from dust on the white lettering of the spine, but with no obvious fading. Jacket is unclipped (10s6d) and now in a protective acetate cover. A superb collectable copy of this scare book. Fine book in a VG+ or better Dust Jacket. ; 8vo 8" - 9" tall; 230 pages .
