A first edition of this illustrated work on the islands to the West of Scotland, from Seton Gordon. With the original unclipped dust wrapper. First edition. Illustrated with frontispiece and fifty images across forty-six plates. Collated complete. A beautifully expressive piece of travel writing on the islands to the West of Scotland, with chapters on the tides, a Highland glen, lobster fishers, St. Kilda, a Viking coast, Scilly in spring, the fires of Saint Bride, and much more. Written by Seton Gordon, a Scottish naturalist, folklorist, and photographer, known for his vivid descriptions of the wildlife and scenery of Scotland. In the original green cloth binding. Externally, smart with light shelf wear and rubbing to the extremities. Paint marks to the edges of the boards. Original unclipped dust wrapper is sound with wear and chipping resulting in loss to the extremities, particularly the head of the spine. Sunning to the spine and the odd mark to the board. A crack to the front joint of the wrapper. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright with the odd spot. Light age toning to the endpapers. Contemporary ink inscription to the front endpaper. Bookseller's label to the rear pastedown. Good
