It Isn't Cricket Hardcover (original cloth) - 1953

Collins, Sydney, 1953. First Edition. Hardcover (Original Cloth). Good/Poor Condition. Illustrator: Photographic. Signed by Author. Introduction by author. Includes a frontispiece reproduction of the front page of the dailies Mirror, Friday, August 22, 1952 with the word "vindicated" in bold letters, and the author's photograph. The text is illustrated with black-and-white photography throughout. Light blue coloured cloth covered boards with black coloured titles; with a ghosting, in white, of the same titles also present.Photographic dustwrapper with yellow and white coloured titles to the front panel and back strip. Boldly signed across the title page, in Biro, and signed so firmly, that he actually went through to the next page on the up stroke of his first name! The autobiography of the author who was part of the "Invincible's" cricket team of 1947 under Don Bradman, who was known for eccentricity at its highest; but, most known for his acrimonious non-selection to the Australian team under a dubious call of "reasons not related to cricket", e.g. theft from team-mates, insulting the Royal family and of stealing a car (to name but a few) as the selection board did not want taken blame for his omission. He,Sid Barnes, duly took the board to court for libel – and won. All this, and more in a fascinating life.  Softening and rubbing of the back strip edges with rubbing of the top book corners and lower book edges. A slight cock of the spine with stains, pinkish, to the front panel. Sunning to the back strip. Tanning of the text block edges and lighter tanning of the pages. Offset tanning to the end pages. Previous owners name and date (1953) to the top left hand corner of the front paste-down; with, the number "266" also present on the same edge. Some stains and faint foxing marks to the first few and last few pages of the book. The dust jacket front fold over flap has separated from the rest of the jacket, and there is rubbing and chipping with some loss to both the top and bottom. There are pieces missing to the top edge of the front edge and the rear of panel shows marks and rubs.  Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. [6], 7 - 222, [4] pages,.
