From Page 5: Autumn 1947 was a fateful period for the Jewish nation, which was subject to two decisive influences at that historic juncture. On the one hand the stormy discussion of the United Nations Special Commission on Palestine's recommendations for "the establishment of a Jewish State and an Arab State in Palestine" wee still continuing. On the other, Great Britain continued to wage war against the haapala, the natural, unquenchable urge towards Jewish Palestine of those who had escaped Hitler's furnaces, and who proceeded toward the Jewish homeland in every possible way. Th decisive hour fell on Saturday, November 29, 1947.
