London: Hodder and Stoughton, 1907. Cloth. Good. 9.5" by 6.5". Ernest C. Peixotto. A scarce early impression of the first UK edition of this charming travelogue by artist Ernest C. Peixotto, illustrating scenery by the Italian seas. An early UK impression of this work in the original publisher's mustard cloth binding, the first UK edition first appeared in the same year 1907. The true first US edition was published the previous year in 1906. A charming volume adorned with some beautiful illustrations by the author, it recounts some travels by the Italian seas, including the Italian Riviera, the Dalmatian Coast, Naples, Sicily, and other sceneries. Ernest Peixotto was an American artist and author, known for his murals and travel literature and for his frequent appearances in 'Scribner's Magazine.' This work is illustrated with numerous full page plates and illustrations in text by the author. Collated, complete. In the original publisher's full cloth binding with an illustrations laid in to the front board. Externally sound with only minor shelf wear and some bumping to the head and tail of the spine and extremities, and a touch of soiling to the boards. The cloth to the spine has slightly darkened, somewhat obscuring the titles, with a minor damp marking to the tail. With a gift bookplate tot he front pastedown, dated 1909 from the Scottish Band of Hope Union. Internally, firmly bound. With only the odd faint occasional handling mark and a minor faint spotting to the first and last few leaves, otherwise the pages are bright and clean. The occasional page is unopened. Illustrated with numerous full page plates and illustrations in text by the author. Collated, complete. Good
