Hard Cover. 0804711178 A VERY GOOD HARDCOVER, IN A VERY GOOD DUST JACKET. 347 pages, with index, bibliography, bibliographic essay, extensive source notes; plus photo illustrated endpapers and several photo and map illustrations within. A hardcover in reddish-brown boards; a few pages within have some markings to edges and/or underlining, but overall a very good copy in solid binding. The dust jacket shows some wear, mostly at edges, and is now protected by a mylar wrapper. This study of a 2000 family sample of Italians who immigrated to San Francisco from the 1850'so the 1930's takes in three generations - not only the immigrants themselves, but their parents in nine selected communities in Italy, and their children born in San Francisco. Woven through the account are the lives of individual Italians who have contributed to the colorful history of San Francisco. A scarce hardcover volume of this important study, published by Stanford university Press in 1982. .
