Translated from the German by Calvin E. Stowe. Printed at the Codman Press by Flagg and Gould for G. & C. Carvill. Cloth-backed boards with printed paper spine label. xii, [9]-512pp, dxii-dxviii, [513]-692pp (with p. 238 misnumbered as p. 338). Inscribed by Stowe on the front free endpaper: For the Dover Library, from the Translator, in grateful remembrance of the benefit which he derived from that library in his early youth. Stowe was a Biblical scholar and graduated from Andover Theological Seminary in 1829 (he also later taught at this Massachusetts institution). After his first wife's death, he married Harriet Beecher Stowe in 1836.; Ex-Library; 8vo 8" - 9" tall; Signed by Translator .
