Illustrator: Illustrated. acknowledgements, list of illustrations, introduction by author, author's note, notes, appendix and index. Colour illustrated frontispiece, of James Boswell painted in 1765. Between pages 102 and 103 there are eight pages of black-and-white illustrations. Bottle green coloured cloth covered boards with gilt coloured titles to the back strip. Illustrated dustwrapper with blue and gilt coloured titles to the front panel and back strip. A biography of the 18th century diarist James Boswell, more specifically in his formative years between 1742 1769. For, as the front fold over panel blurb states ''... he (the author) presents a glowing portrait of Boswell  a figure of more brilliant, more complex, more human and endearing than most any other man of letters the English-speaking world has known.'' Softening of the lower back strip edge, with rubbing of the book corners. Very light age toning of the text block edges and pages with a suspicion of offset tanning to the end pages. A little creasing of the dustwrapper edges and rubbing of the panels. Sunning of the dustwrapper panels. This is the first UK edition.
