Lavishly illustrated catalogue of the Cook/Forster collection of ethnographic artefacts, Göttingen. Map of Cook's three voyages on front end-papers; 351 pp, 341 numbered catalogue entries. Only the main text articles are published in German and English (in two columns); the catalogue section, which commences on p. 277, is in English only. The full-page colour plates, pp. 97-138, are beautifully lit and photographed and stunningly reproduced; the Hodges engravings, in monochrome and set into the text, somewhat less so as there is an inherent problem in copying finely etched detail into half-tone. As book is rather heavy, please ask for a transport quotation when ordering.
