"Here we see how the world's navies emerged at the end of the 1914-18 holocaust. As the preface states, the labor incurred in the preparation of this edition was exceptionally heavy, the editors having to deal with much information withheld from publication during hostilities as well as with the demobilization of the war fleets, 'the indeterminate state of the late enemy navies, and the chaotic conditons of the Russian fleet'. The contents include sections on ships lost in the war, a revised glossary and the usual close-ups on the existing fleets and advertisements of naval power to come. Pictures, dimensions, tonnages, armament details, are here for scholar or enthusiast."
