About This Item

London: HarperCollinsPublishers, 1998. First Printing [Stated]. Trade paperback. Very good. 448 pages. Illustrations (color). Format is 5 inches by 7.5. inches. Cover has slight wear and soiling. Tony Holmes has written three volumes in the Jane's Recognition series, covering Military Aircraft, Fighters of World War 2 and Vintage Aircraft. An Australian based in England, he has been employed as an aviation author/editor since 1989. Tony Holmes has written 42 books and edited more than 200, almost all relating to aviation. This work covers World War I aircraft, Inter-War Aircraft, World War II Aircraft, Postwar Aircraft and Helicopters. In addition to a color picture, there is a text description and information on dimensions, weight, and performance. There may also be information on the date of the first flight and variants. The fifth title in the immensely successful Jane's Recognition Guide series, the Vintage & Veteran Aircraft Recognition Guide is a comprehensive directory of all veteran aircraft flying today. Restoration of historic aircraft is now big business. Although it costs £20,000 per hour to keep a World War II Spitfire airworthy, the world's biggest veteran aircraft collection, the Confederate Air Force has more airplanes than most modern air forces! Its B-29 Superfortress has been gracing air shows with its unique presence for 25 years. Vintage and veteran aircraft range from pre-World War I types like the Bristol Boxcar to relatively modern jets like the F-4 Phantom.
