Japan began its journey toward imperialism beginning in 1937 when the Japanese Army entered the capital of China and systemically slaughtered 140,000 of its inhabitants. History has since portrayed the individual responsible for this and other acts of calculated terror, Emperor Hirohito, as an "innocent ceremonial leader who became the victim of a militaristic clique" - the true nature of Hirohito and his family's role in plotting war against the west is revealed in detail in this two-volume set. Based upon years of research of personal diaries and journeys of imperial advisors in addition to interviews with the individuals who were present during these events Volume 1: Book is in very fine condition with black cloth covering; author, title, volume number, and publisher in gold gilt on spine. Binding is tight, pages are clean with no markings. Pages 1-778 - not including the introduction by Sir William Flood Webb (ix-xvi), Author to Reader (xvii-xlvii) Front end papers show map illustrating the Growth of Japanese Empire - Before World War I to August to August 1942. Back end papers show maps of central and southern Japan and outline of the Imperial Palace. Top and bottom of spine show some bumping, B/w photographs of Hirohito, military advisors, family, kinsman and other opposition members. Dust jacket not price clipped - in fine condition - with microtears/edgewear on top and bottom. Dust jacket shows very slight age tanning. Volume 2: Book is in very fine condition with black cloth covering; author, title, volume number, and publisher in gold gilt on spine. Binding is tight, pages are clean with no markings. Pages 779-1612. Front end papers show map illustrating the Growth of Japanese Empire - Before World War I to August to August 1942.
