Finely bound in green leather with gilt, white, blue, and red design on both boards and spine, gilt floral doublures, fabric endpapers."Édition de Deux Mondes. Limited toTwenty Copies, of which Nine Copies are for America." Lettered copy. Extensively illustrated with fine engravings, each present as a hand-tinted example followed by a black and white version.Heavy wear to interior and exterior hinges, otherwise near fine condition. Rare.Théophile Gautier (1811-1872) was a French poet, dramatist, novelist, journalist, and art and literary critic. Jean and Jeannette, one of his lesser-known works, was first published in1846. Adolphe Lalauze (1838-1906) was a prolific French etcher who illustrated many books. .
