[JEROME KERN "A HEAVENLY PARTY" MANUSCRIPT/HANDWRITTEN ARRANGEMENT FOR HILDEGARDE RADIO PROGRAM, 1938] JEROME KERN, COMPOSER MUSIC, AND DOROTHY FIELDS, WORDS/LYRICS, music copyist with stampings dated 1938, handwritten music/scores for radio orchestra instruments of adaptation of the Kern and Fields music for a performance by Hildegarde in one of her late 1930's radio programs, including music for piano and voice for Hildegarde in performing the song accompanied by the radio orchestra, over 25 pages, with occasional annotations by Hildegarde, one page 9 staves in pencil by Hildegarde with title "Heavenly Party" and notes "accov" (?) and "unis" (?) at top and on another page "A Heavenly Party" in turquoise ink in Hildegarde's distinctive fancy handwriting and note "Hillegarde" (name in pencil misspelled by an unidentified individual, possibly the copyist Sam Schiller identified by his purple circular stamp on most of the pages), all pages 12 stave, 5 lines music composition pages 9" x 12", with RARE 4-page sheet music for "A Heavenly Party" with note "Joy of Living" (1938 RKO movie with the song), published by Chappell, copyright MCMXXXVIII [1938], with ASCAP logo printed in lower right corner, less than 5 recorded at WorldCat/OCLC, this sheet music is a printing made available to singers and performers such as Hildegarde who have been given permission to sing the song, and not for sale to the public…given Hildegarde's celebrity, she was often the first performer/entertainer who sang songs by top composers and lyricists such as Irving Berlin (for whom she worked at one time), George Gershwin, and Jerome Kern…RARE one-of-a-kind entertainment-celebrity item; NOTES: HILDEGARDE, 1906-2005, born Hildegarde Loretta Sell, began her career in vaudeville and traveling shows…at the peak of her popularity in the 1930s and '40s…in the early 1930s, Hildegarde was working as a 'song plugger' in Irving Berlin's New York music office…dubbed "The Incomparable Hildegarde" by Walter Winchell, she performed before European royalty and American servicemen during World War II…Eleanor Roosevelt called her "First Lady of the Supper Clubs"… during the 1940s, she was the host of the NBC radio program "Raleigh Room" (various online sources); JEROME KERN, 1885-1945, one of the most important American theatre composers of the early 20th century…wrote more than 700 songs, many used in over 100 stage works (wikipedia); DOROTHY FIELDS, 1904-74, American librettist and lyricist…wrote over 400 songs for Broadway musicals and films /// CONDITION: well preserved, light normal wear as working scores keywords: celebrity memorabilia, entertainment, handwritten music, Jerome Kern adaptation, radio history
