Reviews:
This book is an all-in-one - from a garden designer' guide to a coffee table book. John Brookes achieves this balance by having charming pictures, sketches with small blocks of text, and detailed descriptions for when you want to know more. What I love most is that he provides various alternatives for the same gardens, which helps better understand his design choices. I've had it for less than a week and it has helped me refine the plans for our garden. Some of the captions may be too fine reading for some, but otherwise really good!
This book may be old and expensive considering it retailed at under thirty pounds originally, and my copy was not in "new" condition as stated, but the book's content is extremely informative and still relevant to today's garden planning and design. It is logical and therefor easy to read. Anyone who is interested in garden design should be thrilled to own a copy of this book.
The author, John Brookes has often been described as the world's most influential garden designer both because of gardens he has created for clients and his books on garden design have been multi-million sellers ever since his ground-breaking classic 'Room Outside' was published in 1969. He is Chairman of the Society of Garden Designers, has made several appearances on BBC's Gardeners World and runs the Clock House School of Garden Design in the UK in addition to his world-renowned lecturing and workshop tours. John Brookes lives in Denmans, Southern England.
