About This Item
London: Adam and Charles Black, 1908. First edition. Cloth. Very Good Indeed. 9.5" by 7". John Pettie . A first edition copy of this fascinating biography of the renowned Scottish painter John Pettie; copiously illustrated throughout. Renowned for his heroic and historical scenes of Scottish History with their rich colour palettes, John Peattie was a notable member of the Royal Academy and one of the best known British artists of his day. This work was written by the authority on the history of English watercolours and etchings, Martin Hardie. This copy is lacking the original dustwrapper, as usual. Collated, complete with fifty coloured plates, and eight small in-text black and white illustrations. In the publisher's original decorative cloth binding, with pictorial to design to front board and spine. Externally very smart, with slight bumping to extremities and head and tail of spine. Slight rubbing to joints. Front hinge slightly strained but still reasonably firm. Offsetting and scattered spotting to endpapers. Internally firmly bound, slightly strained in places. Pages slightly age toned to extremities but very bright and clean with the odd light scattered spot to fore edge of the occasional page. Very Good Indeed
