Front cover lacking, rear cover detached but present, Moderate to heavy toning throughout, largely unopened; paper very brittle. Inscribed and signed by author: "To cousin _ with cordial compliments of Lee Meriwether, St. Louis, 5211 Washington Blvd, April 26, 1931." Text in French. Poor. A reading copy. Lee Meriwether, (1862-1966), was an attache and Special Assistant to the American Ambassador at Paris.This journal covers the years 1916, 1917, and 1918, when he was inspecting concentration camps and military prisons in Normandy and elsewhere. Also covers his missions in Italy and Spain, and Paris during the war.
