Description

Norwalk, CT: Easton Press. Near Fine. 1978. Hardcover. First published in 1772, Defoe describes the 1665 plague in a semi-fictional account as if from his journal. This book is beautifully bound in a full brown leather binding with 22 kt gold spine and cover decorations. The spine has four raised bands with five decorated compartments. All edges are gilt, and there is a tan silk ribbon bookmark and dark red silk moire end papers. There a color frontis and a number of illustrations by Domenico Gnoli. Introduction by James Sutherland. This is a nice clean, tight and unmarked book with no interior or exterior markings. It appears to have been read once and shleved since new.
