About This Item
London: for W. Strahan and T. Cadell, 1775. First Edition. Octavo. First issue with the 12 line errata. 384pp. [1] errata. From the library of William Markwick of Denn Park, dated Feb. 2nd, 1785. Markwick was made a Fellow of the Linnaean Society in 1792. He was also known for his useful and pioneering work in phrenology, the study of when annual events happen in nature. He wrote several works on birds, plants and general zoology but most remained unpublished and in the hands of the Linnaean Society. Bound in contemporary calf, raised bands, red morocco spine label gilt, outer joints have been re-enforced, housed in a custom clamshell box. A clean bright copy of Johnson's travel with Boswell through Scotland. Later, Boswell himself wrote a companion volume Journal of a Tour to the Hebrides about his journey.
