London : printed by T. Bensley, Bolt-Court, ..., 1805. New Edition. Hardback. Very good copies finely rebacked with modern gilt-blocked, leather spines. The original (i.e. contemporary) aniline calf panels have been retained. Gilt-stamped decorative borders to panels, with inner gilt dentils. Panel edges somewhat dulled and rubbed as with age. Surface wear and rubbing to boards as with age. Bumped corners. Marbled endpapers. Some foxing evident around the titles, prelims. and plates. Otherwise, pages bright and clean. Remains quite well-preserved overall. Provenance: From the Library of the New England Historic, Genealogical Society, with their bookplate to front pastedown. Further scans, images etc. and additional bibliographical material available on request. ; 8vo 8"" - 9"" tall; 284 pages; 2 v. (xxxi, [1], iii, [1], 252; 284 p., [21] leaves of plates) : ill., ports. ; 8vo. Notes: Variously attributed. Junius is the pseudonymous author of a series of letters that appeared in the ""Public advertiser"" Jan. 1769-Jan. 1772, attacking among others the Duke of Grafton, Lord Mansfield, and George III. He is generally thought to have been Sir Philip Francis -- Oxford Companion to English Literatuire, 4th ed., p. 440. Each volume has an added engraved t.p., dated June 4 1805, and an engraved frontispiece portrait. Subjects: Great Britain -- Politics and government -- History -- 1760-1820.
