Description

San Francisco: The Book Club of California, 1919. Limited Edition. Vellum. Very Good. 4to. Pp. vii, 52. Introduction by Aurelia Henry Reinhardt. Bound in quarter vellum over marbled paper-covered boards. Gilt lettering on spine. Copy #421 of an edition limited to 500 copies. Corners a tad worn, with some wear along fore-edge of covers. Printed by John Henry Nash. Burton's distillation of Sufi thought, presented as a response to the Rubaiyat of Omar Kayyam, is a slight literary hoax inasmuch as Burton didn't translate the work at all, but wrote it from whole cloth. With a worthy introduction by Aurelia Henry Reinhardt.
