Frankfort: The Kentucky Historical Society, 1977. Hardcover. Small 4to. Red cloth, pictorial dust jacket. xvi, 553pp. Illustrations. Fine/very good. Mild bit of jacket edgewear. A superb, tight first edition bearing a choice autograph addition: Tipped to an inner flyleaf is a Typed Note Signed from Tapp, 1p, 8½" X 11", Lexington, KY, 1960 December 5. Addressed to noted Lincoln/Civil War scholar Arnold F. Gates (1914-93). Near fine. On pictorial letterhead of the Kentucky Civil War Centennial Commission, which cites Tapp as chairman, Tapp writes to this officer of the New York City Civil War Round Table (who'd asked what Tapp had been up to), "The letterhead will answer your question. Something should have been sent sooner giving information about the Kentucky Civil War Centennial...." Signed simply "Ham" in blue ballpoint. Tapp (1922-92) was a noted and prolific author and editor of Kentucky histories as well as chairman of the Kentucky Civil War Centennial Commission.
