Title in orange and black. 8vo, publisher's printed wrappers, backstrip leaning; dust jacket, skillful paper restorations to folds, spine panel and bottom edges on verso, corners clipped; contents clean, 1 page publisher's adverts at end. Scarce in jacket. Filmed three times, most memorably in 1974 by Russian director Andrei Tarkovsky. Not published in another language until the French edition in 1964, and not in English until the Walker edition in 1970.

Slight soiling and discolouration of the cloth, otherwise a very clean, sharp copy. Internally clean, although the poor paper stock has resulted in some uniform toning. One of the scarcest Gaberbocchus publications, and a fine collaboration from the wildly creative Kavan, one of the few authors to have constructed a nom-de-plume, and then adopted that pseudonym as their real name, amongst numerous other achievements, of course.

From the signed, limited, numbered first printing, this is number 266, signed by the author at the limitation page opposite the full title. The pages are bright saving some toning around the deckled edges and quite clean except for a very few scattered spots of foxing; no owners' marks; the quarter cloth binding leans gently to the right but remains tight; the paper boards and paper title plate at the spine show some chipping around the edges, with a pressure mark at the bottom right front corner, a small inward turn and surface scuff at the top left rear corner, and some surface creasing at the corners and right edge of the title plate; some fading is also evident along the head edges of the paper and along the right rear, and the title plate is age-toned; nonetheless, a remarkably clean and attractive book, well-preserved. 459pp.; an extra copy of the title plate is tipped in at the… Read More

A Very Good Plus copy in blue cloth binding that shows offsetting of the jacket design to the boards in a Very Good plus, unclipped dustjacket with some darkening and shallow edge wear to the spine along with two closed edge tears on the front panel. "These 13" was published during Faulkner's most productive and important period (1928-32), for his short story career. The stories in These 13 are arranged to present the shared themes and clarified problems, which lead Faulkner in the direction of his next novel Light in August. Of the thirteen stories in this collection, "Victory," "Ad Astra," "All the Dead Pilots," "Crevasse," "A Justice," "Mistral," "Divorce in Naples," and "Carcassonne" are published here for the first time.

Stapled wrappers, front cover with original ink scarab drawing by the author mounted. One of 33 copies. A scarce publication by one of levy's unnamed presses, being Edouard Naville's translation of 'The Litany of Ra.' The large original drawing of a scarab on the cover is reflective of levy's interest in the symbol, which he used as the title of his collection 'Scarab Poems.' Though neither his name, nor that of one of his presses, appears in the text, this has all the hallmarks of levy's important mimeographed books, and appears less frequently on the market than others. This typescript shows two corrections made in levy's hand - adding "in cleveland" at the end of the sub-title and changing the last words of the second stanza - that subsequently appeared in the published editions: See 'The Buddhist Third Class Junkmail Oracle,' edited by Mike Golden, NY: Seven stories Press, 1999, p. 199." Original manuscript and typescript material by the famed, and infamous, Cleveland poet is scarce, with only two pieces appearing at auction in the past 50 years.
