Mixed Editions. pp. xii, 304, 1914 1st edition; viii, 269, 1920 1st edition; xxxi, 249, 1923 8th imp.; (v), 183, 1926 11th imp. A.e.g. Uniformly bound by Mudie in different coloured skins with Flecker's name on front boards surrounded by crossed garlands of leaves in gilt. Spines ruled at heads & tails with four hatched lines (all in gilt) on those edges & divided into six panels with title & author in gilt in the second. All other panels gilt stamped with either a flower or, in the novel's case, a crown motif in each. Board edges have a gilt pin point decorative roll. Turn-ins have single line fillets at outer edge & french fillets at their inner edge comprised of, working outwards; a single, pin point & scalloped lines with a flower at head & tail fore corners. The binder's signature stamp is in gilt at the tail of front paste-down end papers. All the books have an inscription dated January 1924 to Brita Lingen Gurney ( an (arrested) suffragette) a family friend. We have a card (not for sale here) from Mrs Flecker to her dated May 1924 discussing proof reading 'The Life of James Elroy Flecker: from Letters & Materials Provided by His Mother' & requesting Ms Gurney's help in locating " the following words of Roy's For thee, O Architect of Dream! " (actually used in this slightly altered form as an epigraph to that work). Flecker was known to his family as Roy. Spines & parts of front boards of both the Collected Poems & Hassan slightly sunned; notwithstanding which a beautifully bound set of association copies of the works of one of the most fascinating & singular of Georgian writers..

The Poetry Bookshop was opened in Hay in the 1970's by Anne Stevenson and Michael Farley. Alan Halsey ran it from 1980 to the late 90's and the present owners Chris & Melanie Prince took over in 1998.

In 2000 the shop moved to its present location The Ice House in Brook Street. For anyone who is familar with Hay it runs parallel with Broad Street where the shop used to be. We are almost back to back with our old shop
