About This Item
Rochester NY, 1850. Ephemera. Very good condition. King of Tompkins County Apple" is an illustration from "The series of Fruits, Flowers and Ornamental Trees." The image is of a bright red and yellow apple with serrated leaves and a broken stem set against a blank background. Dellon Marcus Dewey (1819-1889) was a bookseller and publisher in Rochester, N.Y. Starting in the late 1850s Dewey produced brightly colored illustrations of fruits, flowers, and ornamental trees to be used by traveling sales representatives from the nursery to market their products to consumers. By the 1870s Dewey had produced so many images , he began compiling portfolios and custom plate books and portfolios for customers.
