[Biography - Timothy John Greenwood (1947 to 2010; British). An accomplished artist, renowned for his fine copperplate etchings of birds and animals, but perhaps the zenith of his artistic output was a series of 48 watercolour paintings of rare pheasants featured in their natural habitats, several of which have been sold at Christie's. He features in Iain Grahame's Ruffled Feathers, an often humorous account of life at Daws Hall, an international breeding centre for endangered pheasants and waterfowl at which Greenwood was the resident artist; he also illustrated the book. Greenwood's art education began at the Ravensbourne College of Art and was completed at the Camberwell School of Art. In 1961, at the age of 14, he was awarded the first prize for his entry in the "Out of Doors Competition" organized by the BBC Television Department. He then appeared on television with his work in the programme "Animal Magic" presented by Keith Shackleton in 1966 and then in 1971 on the same programme to mark the association of his first One Man Show in London. Greenwood's copperplate etchings were hung in the Royal Academy Exhibitions of 1970, 1971 and 1973. The London British Museum of Natural History selected and published [1970s] his "Great Tit" and "Nuthatch" for their postcard series of "British Birds by British Artists." Amongst important commissions already carried out are the illustrations for the bird section of the Shell Nature Guide to Britain, production of work for the London Natural History Museum, and illustrations for the Shooting Times. Exhibited SWLA "Sparrowhawk", "Short-eared Owl", "Tengmalns Owl (Norway)", and "Young Golden Eagle" [Lewis Frank. A Dictionary of British Bird Painters. F. Lewis Publishers, Ltd, England. 1974 0853170274] SALES. Christie's. London, South Kensington. 9 December 2012. Harewood: The Attic sale. Lot 1224 Timothy Greenwood (1946-2010).
