Description

New York: Vantage Press, 1972. 82pp. Original publisher's red morocco, lettered in silver, with original publisher's pictorial pink textured dustwrapper. Dustrapper scuffed and marked, flaps taped to pastedowns. Inscribed on the FFEP: 'Complimentary Copy to Sir Laurence Olivier from Christopher Lynley George'. Loosely inserted is a typewritten letter in it's original addressed envelope from the brothers expressing their admiration for Olivier: 'I would deem it an honor if you would accept my novel as a small token of admiration and respect I have for you and your long standing career...I have often visualized you as Christopher and Merle Oberon as Lisa.' Christopher Lynley George was the pen name of two Jersey City brothers, John and Anthony Amorosa, who together penned this title. They had little commercial success, and this looks to be their only literary endeavour. Laurence Olivier played Heathcliff to Merle Oberon's Cathy in the 1939 film adaptation of Wuthering Heights, during which they famously despised each other. From the library of Laurence Olivier, to whom many books were gifted over the length of his illustrious, industrious, and enduring career as one of the most important figures of stage and screen in the 20th century. . First edition. 8vo.
