Original gray cloth covered (and lettered) box with orange cardboard sides holding 100 loose sheets with numerous superb illustrations in the text. With five woodcuts by Ernst Ludwig Kirchner, the renowned German expressionist painter who also specialized in printmaking. One of 800 copies (total edition 850). Famous title woodcut in blue and black, the four woodcut interpositions only printed in blue. Kirchner himself took over the book design and furnishing of this rare artist's book. - the second Kirchner-dedicated publication by Grohmann, whose artist monographs and úuvre catalogs are "milestones in 20th-century art studies" (Ralph Jentsch). Slight wear to box, internally fine. A very rare and sought after art book.
