Octavo (22cm.); publisher's simulated cloth in pictorial, partially price-clipped dust jacket; [6],169pp. Jacket a bit wrinkled and lamination shows some crinkling, textblock evenly but lightly toned. A Very Good or better copy though still shows the usual signs of having been read. The author's second novel and the first to feature Inspector John Rebus.


Knots and Crosses is a 1987 crime novel by Ian Rankin. It is the first of the Inspector Rebus novels. It was written while Rankin was a postgraduate student at the University of Edinburgh. In the introduction to this novel, Rankin states that Rebus lives directly opposite the window in Marchmont that he looked out of while writing the book.
