Boston: Dana Estes & Company, 1910. First Edition. Hardcover. Very Good. Octavo; xi, 262 pages, pictorial green cloth, some flaking of the white enamel; ex libris O. W. Smith of Oconomowoc, WI, with his bookplate and some rubber stamps, neatly Dr. Townsend was a renowned Boston obstetrician and pediatrician, but his serious hobby was ornithology. He was a member of the Nuttall Ornithological Club. Townsend sought to follow in Audubon's footsteps in Labrador. This title is his second book about traversing Labrador in the Spring of 1909. "...alll branches of natural history on this Labrador coast were a delight to the writer, and that human studies, both Indian and white, came in for a full share of his observations." Extensively illustrated with photogravures.

Owner Thomas Joyce was the regular book appraiser on Home & Garden TV\'s \"The Appraisal Fair\\\" program, on international broadcasts. Thomas Joyce was the co-discoverer of George Washington's personal copy of William Leybourn's 1679 edition of THE COMPLEAT SURVEYOR, from which young Washington learned some of his surveying skills at age 16. The book had vanished for nearly a century until its re-discovery in 2017. It is now back at Mt. Vernon.
