G+/no DJ Large Crown Quarto in full dark brown calf with gilt text in red title boxes on spine. Contemporary rebinding with additional endpapers and new endbands. 290 pp. Notes: cxxix. Frontispiece, title page, inscription, and argument page all present. Three of the four possible watermarks present [1807, 1809 and Balston 1810]. Evident shelfwear; boards rubbed and scuffed, corners a bit bumped, leather in excellent shape. Interior age toned with some foxing, scattered light pencil marginalia. Binding solid. 1172735. Synopsis
The Lady of the Lake marked the pinnacle of Scott's popularity as a poet. With 25,000 copies sold in eight months, it broke all records for the sale of poetry. Known as a romantic poem, it tells about love and honor amidst a bitter rivalry between King James V and the Douglas family. The book is set in the Trossachs region of Scotland and it is composed of six cantos, each concern the action of a single day.
