The poem, set in Scotland at Loch Katrine in the Trossachs, helped build Scott's reputation. With black & white frontis portrait of the author as well as several drawings and views of Scottish scenes scattered throughout the text. With an introduction by the author and with frequent footnotes. Possibly published c.1830s-40s. --- This compact volume in full green cloth-covered boards with decorations and titling in silver on cover and spine. Volume lacks a dust jacket. --- With prior owner's signature, dated 1847, to front free endpaper, and with dust soiling to textblock edges and discreet Sacramento bookseller label to front paste-down; else a tightly-bound, sound copy.; 24mo 5" - 6" tall; 288 pages .

Synopsis

The Lady of the Lake marked the pinnacle of Scott's popularity as a poet. With 25,000 copies sold in eight months, it broke all records for the sale of poetry. Known as a romantic poem, it tells about love and honor amidst a bitter rivalry between King James V and the Douglas family. The book is set in the Trossachs region of Scotland and  it is composed of six cantos, each concern the action of a single day.
