SIGNED "John Tyler" (by his son and White House Secretary, Robert Tyler) 22" x 28.5" on Vellum with magnificent scribing. Great Seal affixed and attractive. Professionally cleaned and flattened, though discernible folds into sixths are still visible. Scalloped along the bottom. THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA emblazoned across the top in red, orange and black. With original wrapper defining the contents(William Russell Assignee of Christopher Barhart, Patent for 640 acres of land. [This tract actually contains but 633 15/100 acres] This is Survey No. 1861). Some discoloration along the fold lines but this is fine manuscript which would be a majestic wall hanging in any library. <br /> <br /> John Tyler (March 29, 1790 ? January 18, 1862) was the 10th President of the United States. He was also Vice President for a brief one month when President William Henry Harrison died in office and he ascended to the position. Tyler was an ardent force for the Manifest Destiny of the U.S. and the Independant Republic of Texas was annexed during his tenure.<br /> <br /> Tyler's eldest son Robert (1816 - 1877) moved into the White House with his wife and served as his father's personal secretary. During the Civil War he chose to side with his native Virginia and became Register of the Treasury for the Confederacy. After the War he moved to Montgomery, Alabama where he became the Democratic State Chairman and editor of several newspapers.
