This book is vital reading for all citizens of Pasco, though it is a story of all peoples' struggle to make a life for themselves under tragic and dramatic circumstances. We see the story begin and end with the last surviving member of the McIlvey family, wealthy beyond measure, because of the family surviving hurricanes, clouds of mosquitoes, bushwackers, drought, starvation and the Civil War to build a shaky mansion upon sand.
