About This Item
New York: Dutton, 1973. First Edition . Hardcover. Very Good/Very Good. This is a lovely copy. The inside is crisp and clean, with no marks or wear. The red cloth covers are fresh, with minor wear at tips and corners. The dust jacket is price-clipped, but is otherwise in excellent condition, with very minor edge wear. The jacket is now in a protective mylar cover. Synopsis: This is a picture book about the coming of the Northmen to the Chinese empire of T'ang. Ch'ang-an was the capital of the empire of T'ang, a dynasty that flourished from the 8th through the 10th centuries. The only contact was made by Viking merchant-ships which plied the far seas and established trade routes beyond Samarkand. When the Northmen returned from the Land of Silk, they recounted fabulous tales, like this one, about the opulent court, peacocks and enchanters.
